HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Kansas Department of Labor Friday released the January jobs report, which showed Hutchinson had an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent, up from 4.1 percent in December of last year, but lower than the 5.2 percent in January of 2015.
The rate in Reno County is at 4.7 percent, also up from the 3.8 percent in December and slightly lower than the 4.8 percent in January of 2015.
There were 1,442 residents of the county listed as unemployed in January, most of those in the city of Hutchinson.
The increase felt in Reno County seems to be the trend in the area for that month with all the surrounding counties also seeing an increase.
The state’s January seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.0 percent. This was unchanged from December and decreased from 4.3 percent in January 2015, according to the Department of Labor.
