HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 22-year-old man on community corrections and listed as an absconder was before two judges Monday. The first was before Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen where Andrew Hufford was told of possible new charges.

He was arrested over the weekend when he was spotted walking down Plum Street, then allegedly put the hood to his sweatshirt up in order to hide his face from a police officer. The officer turned around and made contact with him in the 500 block of East D. He allegedly had two pocket knives on him in one pocket and two more in another.

It was then discovered that he had the warrants for absconding from corrections and he then attempted to run, but was quickly captured. Once officers made the arrest, they allege that they discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia on his person.

Potential charges include possession of meth, felony interference with a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He then appeared before Judge Joe McCarville, who informed him that the state filed a motion to revoke his corrections. A lot of that has to do with him absconding on Feb. 2.

He has been on corrections for drugs, flee and elude, distribution and possession of drugs, burglary, interference with law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia. Those charges coming from cases in 2012 and 2013.

But, he has other priors for burglary and attempted robbery from a case from 2011.
