NEWTON, Kan. – Early Thursday morning, Newton Fire and EMS crews responded to a house fire in the 300 block of East 6th.

There were occupants at the residence who were able to escape without harm. The house was well involved with fire and crews performed an initial exterior attack to bring the fire under control. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to Newton Medical Center for evaluation.

Hesston and Halstead fire units also assisted at the scene along with providing resources and staffing at Newton stations.
