TOPEKA – Powerball, America’s longest-running multi-state lottery game is scheduled to change this Sunday. The new enhancements are to bring bigger jackpots, better overall odds and more millionaires!

Powerball jackpots will start at $40 million, doubling the previous starting jackpots of $20 million, which means bigger jackpots for players. Players will still chose the first five numbers from a pool of 59, but the numbers in the Powerball pool will shrink from 39 to 35, producing better overall odds of winning a prize. The revamped game features a 1 in 31.8 overall chance of winning versus a 1 in 35 chance previously. The odds of winning the jackpot also improve to 1 in 175.2 million versus 1 in 195.2 million previously.

In addition, the prize for matching the first five numbers increases to $1 million, up from $200,000, and with $1 extra per play for the Power Play option, players will have a chance to win $2 million for the match 5 prize, making more Kansas millionaires! All non-jackpot prize amounts also increase and will be set amounts with a Power Play purchase.

The new Powerball game still offers players nine ways to win and drawings continue to be Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m. Central Standard Time. The ticket price has changed from $1 to $2, but with bigger jackpots, better overall odds and more millionaires, players are getting a big bang for the extra buck!
