HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Sedgwick County man appeared via video from the Reno County Correctional Facility for the reading of charges the state apparently filed in August of last year.

Marcus T. Drake is charged with four counts of identity fraud for allegedly producing documents or checks that contained personal information belonging to four different victims. All of the crimes occurred on July 12, 2015.

Drake is also accused of presenting bogus checks over a seven-day period to a number of local businesses, which allegedly occurred between July 8 and July 12 of last year. That included Westlake Hardware, Orscheln Farm Store and Dillons Marketplace. Although the exact amount wasn’t given, the total according to the complaint is between $1,000 and $25,000. The checks were allegedly through UMB and Commerce Banks.

He was apparently just released from jail in Harvey County and brought directly to Reno County. He asked in court to be released from jail because he told Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen that he needed to get back to Derby to intake for probation in a criminal case in that city.

Judge Allen, although hesitant, did agree to an OR or signature bond, however, warned him if he didn’t show for court on May 18, he would be arrested with a much larger bond. She also placed him on court services supervision.
