HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 20-year-old Hutchinson man arrested early Saturday after he allegedly caused damage at the Wendy’s Restaurant at 700 N. Main made a first court appearance Monday morning.

Employees at the store allege that Javier E. Garcia damaged the back door, a glass window in the store and forced entry into the business, putting them in fear of being hurt, while holding a tire iron.

He was apparently upset with one of the employees of the restaurant who may have been involved with his girlfriend, that according to statements made in court.

When police arrived, they found him on the floor where one of the employees was holding him down.

Garcia was arrested for aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, criminal restraint, felony criminal damage and criminal trespass.

He’s being held on a $31,000 bond and, in court, asked for a bond reduction, admitting that what he did was wrong. He even apologized to the employees of Wendy’s. But, Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen also noted that he was apparently driving at a high rate of speed in a separate incident, so she denied the request.

He’ll be back in court next Monday, May 2, for the formal reading of charges.
