Officials have now identified the two men suspected of breaking into a vehicle near Haven, as 47-year-old Gilford Lee Sherley Jr., and 49-year-old David Cook.

Sherley is jailed on a bond of 8-thousand, 750-dollars on charges of burglary of a motor vehicle, theft, interference with law enforcement, felony flee and elude and violation of conditions of his release on parole.

Sherley is on parole for convictions involving drugs, but also has previous convictions for criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, robbery and kidnapping out of Wyandotte County.

Cook is jailed on a bond of 7-thousand dollars, charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, theft, interference with law enforcement, and violation of conditions of his parole.

Cook is on parole for numerous convictions of identity theft, drugs, theft and forgery. He also have previous convictions for many of the similar charges to the current case. All of the crimes occurring in Sedgwick and Sumner Counties. He’s listed as an absconder according to the Kansas Department of Corrections website.

The two men who were first thought to have stolen a vehicle in the county, apparently only burglarized one.

Sheriff Randy Henderson says that at 5:09 p-m, Monday, Steven Schrock was working in a field in the area of Arlington Rd and Victory Rd, just south of Haven. He says he observed two white males in a vehicle owned by Randy Harder, the landowner. Schrock called Harder who called 911.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper spotted a Suburban the two were in around Arlington Rd and Worthington Rd, in eastern Reno County and a pursuit proceeded into Sedgwick County with officers from KHP, Sedgwick County and Reno County all involved. The men abandoned their suburban in the area of 37th and Tyler in northwest Wichita, but were later located in that same area.

Both made first appearances on the charges and both were denied bond reductions. A status hearing was set for January 25.
