HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the four suspects in the home invasion cases from last year convinced Judge Tim Chambers to grant him a new attorney, thus delaying his sentencing.

Dakota Anderson was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of aggravated robbery, one count of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated burglary.

The two home invasions occurred in the 3600 block of Rockwood Drive and the other in the 3400 block of North Waldron. The first occurred on May 4 and the second on May 14.

He argued at the sentencing hearing that he feels he had ineffective assistance with his lawyer, that being Donald Snapp. His attorney told the judge that he feels he did the best he could at trial. But, Anderson, at one point, angered the judge when he interrupted. When allowed to speak, he told the judge that he feels he can no longer work with Snapp.

Because of the seriousness of the charges, Judge Chambers granted the request, saying he didn’t want any issues when the case is appealed.

So the sentencing has been pushed back to May 27 and local attorney Shannon Crane was assigned to handle the sentencing phase of the case.

Anderson is the last to be sentenced in this case.

Jordan Leffel was sentenced to 19 1/2 years in prison and another six months for refusing to testify at Anderson’s trial.

Frederick Lemons Jr. was sentenced back on April 22 for his part in the case involving the break-in and robbery at the home on North Waldron. He will be serving a sentence of over 20 years in prison.

The fourth suspect saw his case handled through juvenile court.
