HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The county has released the latest mortgage registration taxes and recording fees.

This continues to show the county losing dollars with the registration fees, while the recording fees, at least last month, didn’t improve that much.

According to the numbers, the county’s mortgage registration tax collected in April was at $21,700, down from March when they actually collected over $32,000. It’s also down from April of last year when they brought in just over $25,000.

The recording fee collections were up slightly last month with the county collecting $24,475, which is an increase of about $429 over March numbers, but considerably more than the same time last year when the county collected $16,167.

Eventually, the mortgage registration tax will be eliminated completely. A law passed in 2014 will eliminate that tax by 2019. Counties will be able to collect more with the collection fees, however, that won’t offset the loss from the registration tax on mortgages.
