County Commission approves changes to county fire districts

Reno County Courthouse

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After a fairly brief discussion, the Reno County Commission has approved the resolutions that would move some properties and businesses in the Pleasantview area from three different fire districts into another.

Those properties will move from Fire Districts Two, Three and Four into Fire District Eight. This comes after property and business owners in that area had concerns over response times. The resolutions will now be published in the Hutch News and the protest period of 30 days will begin with the change taking effect on July 1.

They also approved an amended agreement between fire districts four and eight, increasing their co-response area by three square miles.

The commission also granted the request of Joint Fire District 2 to hire an architect to obtain estimates to expand the fire station in Buhler. The station covers parts of both Reno and Harvey counties. They also gave approval to Fire District Four to spend $22,000 from its special equipment fund to purchase new air packs.

Health Department Director Nick Baldetti got approval for additions to the Environmental Health Fee schedule, which is basically a user fee for those needing certain services in the county.
