NEWTON – A 28-year-old North Newton man who entered guilty pleas to an amended complaint in one case while the state dropped the other was sentenced Tuesday to 241-months, or 20-years in prison, the aggravated sentence.

Chad Carr back in November entered pleas to 2nd degree murder, three counts of aggravated battery, and one count of abuse of a child. He had been charged with felony first degree murder.

Carr is now convicted in the case involving the death of 19-month-old, “Vincent Hill.”

A separate case of sexual exploitation of a child was dropped as part of the plea agreement with the state.

Autopsy information indicated the child died from complications of multiple blunt-force trauma combined with oxygen deprivation to the brain from suffocation or asphyxiation. But, Harvey County Attorney David Yoder said the child also suffered numerous broken bones, which included a broken leg and a broken collar bone. The child’s death occurring in March of 2010

The mother of the child Katheryn Nycole Dale was sentenced to 41-months in prison back in September of 2010 for one count of abuse of a child, and one count of aggravated child endangerment.

Yoder telling us Tuesday that Carr will also have to register as violent offender.

There will also be a restitution hearing at some point, but Yoder says they still don’t know what that amount will be.
