HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Schools in USD 308 continue a program that provides summertime meals to children and youth in 2016 at six locations, including two community brown-bag locations.

The meals are free for anyone age 18 and under. No reservations are needed for the meals.

The 2016 summer feeding program will be weekdays May 31 through July 29 at two locations:

Hutchinson Middle School – 7, 210 E. Avenue A, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (regular school lunches)

Avenue A Splash Park, unit block of West Avenue A, 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (brown-bag lunches)

Lunches will be served weekdays from June 6 to July 29 at three locations:

Avenue A Elementary School, 111 South Madison, from 11 a.m. to noon (regular school lunches)

Boys and Girls Club at Shadduck Park, 600 West 2nd, 11 a.m. to noon (regular school lunches)

Hutchinson Public Library, 901 North Main, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (brown-bag lunches)

Lunches will be served from June 6 to June 30, Monday through Thursday at Hutchinson Magnet School at Allen, 403 W. 10th, 11 a.m. to noon (regular school lunches)

New for 2016 is a second brown-bag lunch location. The Hutchinson Public Library location joins the Avenue A Splash Park, located along Avenue A between Main and Washington, as a brown-bag lunch location. A district delivery van will distribute brown-bag lunches, which include a peanut butter and jelly, string cheese stick, apple slices, fresh carrots and milk. The Hutchinson Public Library site also will have deli sandwiches available on certain days of the week.

While meals for youth 18 and under are free, adult lunches cost $3.45.

The locations offering regular meals are similar to those provided during the school year, providing an entrée as well as plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Menus will be available on the district’s website.

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
