HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 31-year-old Sterling man with a long criminal history was back before a judge where the state filed a single count against him.

Russell Craven was arrested by police back on May 18 on a number of traffic charges and was later arrested on a single charge of being in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office. The state charged him with that single count.

He’s alleged to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident in the unit block of West B, where he allegedly struck a vehicle owned by TECH. He was later located by the Reno County Sheriff’s Office in Nickerson where he was found to be in possession of the firearm.

Craven was released from the Department of Corrections back in February. Convictions include burglary, theft, criminal damage, criminal possession of a firearm and drug-related charges. Most of the convictions occurred in Rice County, but the drug convictions occurred here in Reno County.

The new felony case now moves to a waiver-status docket.
