HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One person was injured during a fire at home in Hutchinson on Wednesday.
Just after 10:30 p.m., Hutchinson Fire Department Blue Crew under the direction of Battalion Chief Unruh responded to the 700 Block of East B. Avenue for a structure fire.
Initial arriving units met the occupants outside the home who stated that there was a fire in a bedroom on the second floor.
Crews entered the home to find a mattress fire.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire in under five minutes.
Investigation of the fire showed that there was an electrical issue in the electrical outlet next to the bed.
The home was occupied by three people at the time of the fire.
One occupant received minor burns to the leg while trying to put out the fire. Another occupant went by ambulance for an asthma attack.
Damage estimates are under $1000.
Hutchinson Fire responded six units and remained on scene for one hour.
