HUTCHINSON, Kan. — IdeaTek Equity Group of Buhler has come up with an impressive proposal for using the old Prosperity Elementary School building if all goes as planned.

The company will go before the Reno County Planning Department next week to ask for a zoning change and a conditional use permit to make major renovations to the building.

Plans are to use the building for indoor self storage. But the other areas would be used for an events center with the kitchen and gymnasium staying in tact for such small events. Plans are to rent that area of the building for receptions or parties. A third area is being designated for a CrossFit-type gym in which classes would be held, offering the program for groups of between four and eight students, according to the proposal. The area would not be a self-serve gym, but used for organized classes only.

No word on when work would begin on the building, which has sat idle since it was closed by the Buhler School District with the opening of Plum Creek Elementary.
