TOPEKA, Kan. — Starting the week of June 27th, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will resume construction on I-135 Highway in Harvey County.

This project on I-135 starts at the Sedgwick/Harvey County line and ends approximately 7.5 miles north, south of the City of Newton. Once construction resumes, paving will begin, followed by edge rock and striping.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane, and the work zone will have a reduced speed limit of 60 mph. Flagmen will be present during work on the ramps. Traffic slowdown with delays should be expected.

All loads over 13.5 feet of total width should seek alternative routes. This project is scheduled to be completed in August, depending on delays caused by adverse weather conditions.

APAC Kansas, Inc., Shears Division from Hutchinson is the prime contractor for this over $8 million project, which is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature.

KDOT urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.
