HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A local man was in Reno County District Court Wednesday where he was sentenced to 18-months community corrections on an over four year sentence.

Travis Donaldson was convicted of three counts of felony theft, both occurring on February 3, 2015. That included him allegedly stealing some rings from HCC Coach Steve Eck with a value of a thousand dollars or more and a video camera stolen from Hutchinson Community College with a value also a thousand dollars or more.

Donaldson also entered pleas on more serious charges. In one case he was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, both allegedly occurring on Jan. 14, 2015. He’s also charged with misdemeanor theft for allegedly stealing scrap metal on Jan. 11.

In the third case, he was accused of three counts of making false writing involving pawn tickets at a local pawn shop and three counts of theft by deception where he’s alleged to have made false statements to that same pawn shop where he received cash.

Donaldson was granted corrections in those cases, but Judge Joe McCarville found he had violated his probation in a misdemeanor marijuana conviction and order the one year sentence be served.

According to Assistant District Attorney Andrew Davidson, judge had no problem with him getting work release, but Davidson says it will be up to the sheriff’s office as to when that would begin.
