HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A Hutchinson man who waived his right to a preliminary hearing was arraigned on the charges Monday morning.

Jacob Elzey entered “not guilty” pleas after he was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of prescription drugs with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, felony theft or, in the alternative, possession of stolen property, no driver’s license and misdemeanor theft.

He was arrested in the 400 block of East 4th after they were allegedly in a stolen Ford Ranger. That was on July 6, 2015.

In the other case, Elzey is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, distribution of amphetamine, possession of prescription drugs with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, personal use drug paraphernalia, interference with law enforcement and criminal damage.

He was arrested back in January of 2015 in the 500 block of North Van Buren. Apparently an officer saw him in a vehicle and he attempted to flee when the officer stopped the vehicle and broke a fence in the process. Elzey is then alleged to have given a different name to officers. This allegedly occurred on Jan. 31, 2015.

The two cases will now be scheduled for a pre-trial hearing. That’s to see if there will be any pretrial motions, plea negotiations and any other business that needs to be handled prior to the case going before a jury.
