FINNEY COUNTY — A southwest Kansas woman died in an accident just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Chrysler passenger car driven by Madison K. Bemis, 22, Lakin, was westbound on U.S. 50 three miles east of Deerfield.

The vehicle ran into the back of a trailer being pulled by a 2012 Kenworth semi that was stopped to make a left turn onto Coop RoadLocal.

Bemis was transported to the hospital in Garden City where she died.

She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

The semi driver, Jose Martinez-Sotelo, 36, Garden City, was not injured.
