HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 30-year-old Hutchinson man arrested after an incident on Feb. 19 was back in court Monday for a preliminary hearing, but entered a plea to lesser charges instead.

Timothy Jackson was charged with aggravated assault and battery against another man, but the state agreed to lower the charges to misdemeanors of simple assault and misdemeanor battery.

He was then sentenced to six months for the assault and 30 days for the battery, then granted one year of probation.

The disturbance started with Jackson throwing a rock and breaking the glass in a sliding door. The victim then confronted him and that’s when the fight began. He allegedly pushed the victim, causing him to fall to the ground and then kicked him while he was down. He also allegedly pulled a knife and threatened to kill him with it.

Jackson is on community corrections for a drug possession charge.
