HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 34-year-old man who waived his preliminary in a stabbing case where a local man died was sentenced Friday 90-months, or 7-years and six months.

Kevin Wayne Ginn Jr. stabbed 24-year-old Deshamus Diron Luckey during a large disturbance just after 2 a.m. New Years Day in the area of 8th & Madison.

He was originally charged with voluntary manslaughter, but in March, the state amended the complaint to murder in the second degree. They added two other counts of voluntary manslaughter and aggravated battery.

Ginn entered a plea to one count of involuntary manslaughter with the other charges dropped as part of the agreement.

In addition to the sentence, he was also ordered to pay restitution of $3,865 to the family of the victim to cover some of the cost for the funeral.

A statement was read in court from the victims mother over the loss of her son. In that statement to mother wanted to Ginn to understand that the victim was loved.
