HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 46-year-old man well known to law enforcement was arrested early this morning in the 200 block of East 4th, after a Hutchinson Police officer spotted him and knew had an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court for another case.

They made contact with Jeff Mitchell and allegedly he became combative to officers present and refused to obey their commands to get into a patrol vehicle after being placed under arrest. According to statements made in court, he had to be literally pushed in the vehicle. He then allegedly began kicking the officer leaving marks of the officers legs.

He was taken to jail on the warrant and new charges of felony interference with law enforcement and battery of a police officer.

In court, he asked for reduction of bond, but the fact that he didn’t appear for a status hearing in another case didn’t make Magistrate Judge Cheryl Allen very comfortable with lowering the bond. It was left at $11,500.
