Reno County Public Works continues to try and find ways to prevent a major spike in their budget while at the same time fund many bridge repairs or projects.

Public Works Director Dave McComb told the County Commissioners Tuesday morning that he’s gong to try and manage the budget enough that several repair projects will come directly from the road and bridge fund instead of the 1-mill bridge levy incorporated by the county 2-years-ago. This would allow for a major span to be replaced in 2013 or 2014.

The span located near the intersection of Arlington and Whiteside Roads, about 8-miles south of Hutchinson, could cost between 500 and 600-thousand dollars to replace.

The one mill bridge levy generates about 485-thousand dollars a year. So McComb will try to make any needed repairs for roads and bridges from the budget, and use the mill levy for bridge replacement only. The change will start with the 2013 budget cycle.
