Reno County Commission approves new vehicles for Sheriff’s Office

Wrecked Sheriff Vehicle

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – As expected the Reno County Commission meeting lasted all of 10-minutes Tuesday with the only item on the agenda approved.

They granted a Sheriff’s Office request to purchase two 2016 Ford Interceptor vehicles at a total cost of $53,296. The purchase would be from Midway Motors in Hutchinson.

Captain Darrian Campbell told the commission that they sought bids from six dealers from Hutchinson, Wichita and Salina and only 1 responded, that being Midway Motors. These are vehicles designed for law enforcement according to Campbell, not a vehicle dealers carry on their lots and could be purchased by the general public.

These vehicles will replace ones damaged in recent events including one badly damaged involving a high speed chase with Dominic Vargas back on June 27. He led law enforcement on a chase over outstanding warrants.

The new case against him is still pending in the courts.
