Defeated County Commissioner may not be throwing in the towel just yet

James Schlickau

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Although the canvassing of the ballots in Reno County from the primary election is complete and showed the second district county commissioners race went to challenger Ron Hirst, Incumbent James Schlickau may not be throwing in the towel just yet.

Schlickau lost by only 37 votes and says because the vote was so close, he’s considering seeking to retain his seat with write in votes. He didn’t give a definite yes at this point, but told us most likely he will. It’s still be considered with his family.

Hirst outdistanced Schlickau 1,134 votes to 1,097, that after the 92 provisional votes were counted.

Schlickau told us he would let us know when he makes a final decision and of course we’ll let you know.
