HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The state is not giving up its efforts to have a 17-year-old convicted this past week with two counts of murder moved to the county jail from juvenile detention.

They filed a motion Friday in the case of Samuel Vonachen after the Judge Trish Rose denied their immediate request for the move after the verdict in the murder case was read. That according to District Attorney Keith Schroeder.

The jury on Wednesday convicted the teen of two counts of first-degree murder for the killing of his mother and sister, who died after he set fire to the family home on Sept. 26 2013. His father was able to escape.

When a hearing is scheduled to hear the motion, we’ll be there to cover it.
Sentencing is set for Sept. 30.
