HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It won’t look too good, and might be a bit bumpy in some spots, but all of North Main will be open when the State Fair begins its 10-day run on Friday.

According to Dave Sandoval with APAC Shears, the Main Street project between 18th and 23rd is two-three weeks behind schedule. Most of the delay has been caused by the wet weather, but the project also hit a snag with AT&T with the location of a storm drain.

Sandoval says that, by this Thursday, the hope is to have the new sidewalk on the fairground side completed up to the north side of the fire station along with the new curb and gutter finished just shy of that same location. Crews will be placing temporary asphalt along both east and west sides to eliminate any pavement drop-offs, and  place backfill dirt behind the curb, sidewalks, and driveways to provide for safe foot traffic.

All traffic control will be pulled off completely from the project for the entirety of the fair with construction resuming on Sept. 19.
