A Hutchinson man facing a federal a gun charge and is charged in a meth manufacturing case in Reno County District Court was in court this afternoon for a status hearing.

Jason Casanova is accused of a numerous felony charges associated with an alleged meth lab which was discovered after a search warrant was served on a storage unit at 6210 North Tobacco Road back on August 31, of last year.

His attorney has apparently filed a motion to suppress in the case, but was apparently done under seal according to that attorney. A check with the District Court Clerk confirmed that. Being under seal means that it’s closed to the public and the media to see. However, Judge Trish Rose did set a motion hearing date for February 23, so we may learn more about what’s in that motion at that time.

Charges in the meth case include manufacture of methamphetamine, or in the alternative, attempt to manufacture, possession of lithium, anhydrous ammonia, both with intent to manufacture, possession of anhydrous in an unapproved container, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, theft, in this case a tool box and tools, which reportedly belonged to USD 308, the Hutchinson school district, or in the alternative, possession of stolen property.

A tentative trial date in the case is set for February 28, but thats not his only issues.

Casanova is also charged along with Kylie Hartman with conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery in a separate case which allegedly occurred in June of last year, the same month that Jennifer Heckel was murdered in her northwest Hutchinson home.

That case remains pending in District Court.
