HCC soccer at Dodge this evening

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team will open play in the HCC soccernewly formed Jayhawk West on Wednesday when the Blue Dragons travel to Dodge City for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium.

Prior to this season, the Jayhawk Conference decided to split the league’s 12 women’s soccer programs into two divisions and play home and home series within each division. Hutchinson will play Dodge City, Garden City, Pratt and Barton twice this season as part of its league schedule. Dodge City will come to the Salthawk Sports Complex on Sept. 21.

Hutchinson enters its conference opener 3-0 with three-straight shutouts over North Lake, Rose State and last Friday’s 12-0 blanking of Jayhawk East foe Cowley. In that game, sophomore Jazmin Hartshorn had career highs of four goals, two assists and 10 points. Sophomore Jordan Downing had a career-high four assists. Freshman Sheena Nicol also had a four-goal game and sophomore Jordan Smith had two goals and two assists, both marks were career highs.

For the second time in three games, Hutch goalkeepers didn’t face a shot on goal.

Dodge City is currently the leader in the Jayhawk West. The 1-1 Conquistadors are 1-0 league play after a 10-0 victory over Pratton Monday. Dodge City opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Seminole State on Sept. 1.

Hutchinson will return home on Saturday to take on Barton at 2 p.m. at the Salthawk Sports Complex.
