Gas prices coming down once again

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas gas price average dropped two cents this week to $2.15. The savings percentage over last year’s prices continues to shrink.

The average price in Hutchinson as of Wednesday morning indicates the local price has also come down and is currently at $2.04 at most stations, according to www.gasbuddy.com.

Although, two stations are below that price at $2.02 per gallon, that being Murphy’s USA on the Walmart parking lot and Central Prairie Coop at 1200 W. 4th.

That means that the price locals are paying is below the state average as well as the national average, which is currently at $2.20 according to AAA.

Prices rose in the second half of August due to increasing crude oil prices and uncertainty regarding Hurricane Hermine’s impact on Gulf Coast refineries. When it became clear that the storm would not impact production, prices dropped quickly during the second half of last week and through the weekend.
