HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 40-year-old man arrested back on Aug. 31 after he allegedly stabbed another man during a confrontation in Hutchinson was back before a judge Friday morning where he was read the formal complaint against him.

The state has charged Venancio Vigil Jr. with aggravated battery, which if convicted, could send him to prison for over 14 years.

He’s alleged to have stabbed Francisco Gracia Jr. in the front yard a Hutchinson home. The victim was transported by Reno County EMS to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery. He was later transferred to a Wichita hospital. He has since been released from the hospital.

Vigil remains jailed on a $50,000 bond and his case moves to a waiver-status docket on Oct. 5.
