HUTCHINSON, Kan. – An area man convicted of stealing money from a manufacturing company in Haven which led to another charge including sexual exploitation of a child was sentenced Friday.

Norman Perser was given a total of three years and two months in prison for the two charges, but then granted three years community corrections. The case fell in whats called a border box meaning Judge Trish Rose had the option of ordering prison or granting community corrections. Both the state and the defense had recommended the corrections.

He had entered a plea agreement to the two charges while two others including unlawful computer acts and theft were dismissed.

The state alleged that between Dec. 19, 2013 and Sept. 17, 2014, Perser was stealing thousands of dollars from Kincaid Equipment Manufacturing in Haven. As investigators looked further at his computer, they allegedly discovered images of child pornography.

There was some question as to how much restitution should be ordered in the case, so Judge Rose stated in court that they would be scheduled at a later date.

Perser will also have to register as a sex offender for the next 25-years.
