HUTCHINSON, Kan. — After some delays, the renovation at the Hutchinson Airport is under way.

Work on the north/ south runway got under way Wednesday which calls for a complete rebuilding of the strip. The project also calls for improved taxiways, lighting, a GPS approach system, signage and a shorting of the major southwest to northeast runway by 1,600.

Dondlinger and Sons of Wichita is doing the work at a cost of $4.45 million, less than the engineer’s estimate of $5.24 million.

Construction is expected to take seven months to complete.
