McPherson man arrested in stolen truck and burglary cases

NEWTON – A 33-year-old McPherson man was arrested last week for charges involving the stealing a truck, stolen tools and other property and attempting to steal another vehicle.

It was last Thursday at around 9:00 p-m, when Harvey County Deputies were dispatched to a report of a vehicle in the ditch at the 9000 block of N Anderson. They located a white 2003 Chevy pick up at that location. They also discovered the pick up had been stolen from Valley Center and was involved in a gas drive off in the city of Hesston.

The truck had numerous tools and other property inside it, but no driver or occupants were found. It was later determined the tools and other property in the truck were stolen items from McPherson.

Then at 11:30 p-m, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 9000 block of Meridian in Harvey County for a burglary in progress. The resident of that address found an unknown white male in their garage attempting to take his Dodge Charger. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Clifford Gustus of McPherson.

Gustus was clothed in pajama pants and was bare foot, and was examined for foot injuries from walking across a stubble field from where the stolen 2003 Chevy Pick up truck was located.

He refused treatment from Harvey County E-M-S and was arrested for burglary, theft, criminal damage, and possession of stolen property.
