HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Fire crews Sunday afternoon responded to 500 block of Molly Mall for a structure fire. Arriving units found smoke showing from an attached garage. The fire was contained in less than 5 minutes.

Several people were in the home at the time of the fire with no injuries being reported.

The cause of fire was from hot items being dropped out of a smoker onto contents inside the garage.

Estimated damage costs are $3,500, with damage to the contents in the garage as well as smoke damage to the walls and ceiling of the garage.

Fire officials remind you that outside cooking appliances are meant to be used away from structures and definitely not inside open structures, such as a garages or enclosed porch areas.

The fire was reported around 1:36 p.m.
