WICHITA – Once again, scoring conditions weren’t favorable at Crestview Country Club on Tuesday, but the No. 9-ranked Hutchinson Community College men’s golf team trimmed some strokes off Monday’s performance and climbed the leaderboard in the final round of the Newman University Fall Invitational on Tuesday.

With a strong south wind howling for a second-straight day, the Blue Dragons shaved three strokes off Monday’s second round and climbed two spots on the leaderboard to finish eighth overall. Hutchinson shot 301 – the fifth-best team round on Tuesday – and closed with a 54-hole total of 908.

Hutchinson was 28 strokes behind team champion Rogers State (296/880).

The Blue Dragons had one Top 10 finish and two players finish in the Top 20 individually.

Freshman Cole Gritton tied for ninth at 6-over 222 after firing a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Gritton’s 70 in the second round put him in position for a Top 10 finish.

Freshman Doug Rios-Ceballos had the low round of Tuesday with a 1-under 71. He finished tied for 18th at 10-over 226.

Freshmen Jack Lanham and Matt Percy were the other two Blue Dragons golfers to figure in the scoring in the final round. Lanham carded a 77 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th at 231. Percy shot a 78 to tie for 38th at 232.

Sophomore Wil Arnold tied for 43rd after a final-round 80 to finish at 234.

Blue Dragon Individual player Mac McNish tied for 34th after a 75 on Tuesday and a 54-hole total of 230.

The Blue Dragons will next play at the NJCAA National Preview next Monday and Tuesday at Buffalo Dunes in Garden City. Buffalo Dunes will be the site of the 2017 NJCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship in May.
