A 20-year-old man babysitting his girlfriends children is jailed on charges of child abuse and aggravated battery for injuries to a 2-year-old girl.

Trevor Coleman is charged after the child suffered a lacerated liver, and two broken wrist.

According to Hutchinson Police Detective Scott Carlton, Coleman claims he was just playing with the child which was one of three in his care. He admits he had the child facing down when he slammed the child on his knee, which is what is suspected of causing the injuries to the child’s liver. He then allegedly threw the same child in the air, about 8-feet according to the detective, but failed to catch the child, who then landed on the carpet. That’s believed to have caused the broken wrist. This apparently occurring on Sunday

Coleman apparently didn’t bother to tell his girlfriend what happened, but the child was feeling sick on Monday, so she took the child to the doctor, with the doctor then discovered the injuries. The child was then taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for treatment. Carlton says the child has lost a lot of blood as a result of the laceration to the liver.

Coleman made an appearance in court via-video from the Reno County Jail, and his bond was left at 15-thousand, however there is a detainer for him in Missouri, with him apparently on some type of probation there, so he won’t be released under any circumstance.

He’ll be back in court on February 8, or whenever the state files formal charges.
