SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — It’s taken a long time, but it looks like barring any unforeseen
circumstances the Frank Hart Crossing over the Arkansas River will be open by the end of next week.
Don Brittain of Reno County Public Works says Bettis Asphalt and Construction informed him that they are pouring some of the final approaches, and if the weather stays nice the project should be mostly finished by Oct, 22, although there will still be some small touch up work left to be done.
That’s nearly two months behind what was the original completion date of September 2nd. As the September deadline near Public Works announced that there was a miscalculation in the number of days it would take to complete the project. Brittain says the project was calculated in calendar days instead of actual work days. When the numbers were reworked, the completion day was pushed back seven weeks.
Brittain says there is still some work that may have to be done to the bridge after it is opened..
