HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 24-year-old man arrested last week after he allegedly ran from officers when they tried to arrest him for an outstanding warrant for theft.

Colton Viers is also listed as an absconder from community corrections for a drug conviction.

He has now been charged by the state in the new case with aggravated burglary, possession of methamphetamine, personal use drug paraphernalia and interference with law enforcement.

He’s alleged to have taken off when an officer approached him on Oct. 5. He had a backpack with him, which he allegedly dropped while fleeing the officers. It allegedly contained the drugs and drug paraphernalia.

He allegedly ran into a home to escape the officers which wasn’t his and the occupant of that home didn’t know him. He eventually put his hands up and was taken into custody when police arrived at that home.

He remains jailed on total bonds of $23,500 and he should be back in court for a probation violation in the drug case on Friday.
