HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A 32-year-old Hutchinson man serving over 18 years in prison in a kidnapping case will serve more time after he was sentenced Friday for threatening the lives of two Hutchinson Police officers. That coming after the verdict was read in the kidnapping case.

Todd Lloyd was found “guilty” for threatening officers, Sgt. Josh Radloff and Sgt. Eric Buller after a bench trial. They were the two officers involved in the kidnapping case. He looked directly at the two officers after the verdict and threatened to kill them if he ever got out of jail.

The defense argued for a reduction of time and wanted it to run concurrent which was denied by Judge Tim Chambers. Attorney Ben Fisher noted that the threat really didn’t matter because Lloyd would be in prison for an extended period of time, saying he isn’t eligible for parole in the kidnapping case until 2031.

Lloyd earlier in the morning was again ordered by Judge Trish Rose to prison for violating his probation which the state filed after he was charged in the kidnapping case. He appealed, contending the court erred in relying upon a probable cause finding made at his preliminary hearing in the kidnapping case and was ordered to serve the two-year, eight-month sentence.

The appeals court agreed saying there is a tougher standard for finding someone violated their corrections, so Judge Rose found the standard needed to establish a probation violation and re-sentenced him.

Lloyd had entered a plea in this case to aggravated battery and misdemeanor theft for the case from 2012. Despite having a substantial criminal history, he was granted two years probation on the underlying sentence of two years and eight months.

The state says he violated his probation by being arrested on April 23, 2014, when he came close to being shot by two Hutchinson Police officers during an altercation where he held his girlfriend at knife point. He eventually threw the knives down and, after a brief struggle, was taken into custody.
