TOPEKA, Kan. — A Hutchinson organization has been awarded a grant to support local public safety programs, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced today.

Reno County Community Corrections will receive $6,760 to support its Life Skills Training program to reduce recidivism among offenders with a history of substance misuse and family/marital problems.

“Providing the best public safety services and crime prevention requires a dedicated staff of local officials,” Schmidt said. “These grants will help advance local priorities for improving public safety.”

The grants are part of the Federal Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program and were awarded by the Kansas Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Schmidt serves as the chair of the council.
