HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Commission made quick work of its agenda, which only included one item for action, that being a Charter Resolution concerning the construction and financing of Sewer District 8. That was approved as expected. That allows the county to publicize the plans for the improvements and the funding mechanism in the Hutchinson News for two consecutive weeks. There would then be a 60-day protest period before any formal work would begin.

One item, only up for discussion this week, was a recommendation from County Treasurer Jan Hull to enter into an agreement with Mail Services, LLC from Des Moines, Iowa, to provide a unit price for services to mail 2016 tax statements.

Apparently the county had been paying a company over $29,000, but the Iowa company would do the same work for less than half that with a bid of $13,779. No decision was made on this issue with that expected to come up again next week.

The commission also took time to tour the work being done now in the old jail in the Law Enforcement Center, which will be eventually used as an evidence storage area.
