HUTCHINSON, Kan..– Union Pacific Corporation today reported 2016 third quarter net income of $1.1
billion, or $1.36 per diluted share compared to $1.3 billion, or $1.50 per diluted share, in the third quarter 2015.
The nation’s largest railroad and the 5th highest property taxpayer in Reno County reported operating revenue of nearly $5.2 billion was down 7 percent in the third quarter 2016 compared to the third quarter 2015.
The railroad continued to show declines in every type of product shipping with the exception of ag related products which increased by 11 percent. Fewer trains and carloads did improved UP’s train velocity by 2 percent.
UP runs more than 2,200 miles of track in Kansas with about 25 trains per day through Reno County. Last year the railroad had a state payroll of more than $146 million.
