Reno County commission approves agenda items, discusses one other

Reno-County-Courthouse-2

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — One of the items discussed last week at the Reno County Commission meeting was approved this week. That was the recommendation from County Treasurer Jan Hull to approve an agreement with Mail Services, LLC. of Des Moines, Iowa, to provide a unit price for services to mail 2016 tax statements.

The Iowa company will do the same work for less than half what the county had been paying with a contract totaling $13,779.

County Administrator Gary Meagher told the commission that he checked with two other counties that have used the company and both were happy with the service. That being Douglas and Sedgwick Counties.

The commission also approved the letter verifying the dollar amount of funds available in the 2017 Reno County Transportation budgets as local match for the Kansas Department of Transportation grant application. They also approved a letter authorizing Barbara Lilyhorn, Director of the Reno County Public Transportation Department, as signatory for documentation/certifications with the Kansas Department of Transportation. Both of these items would be considered routine items.

The commission also took up a discussion for the purchase of X-ray equipment from US testing Equipment LTD of Vancouver, Washington. This equipment will be used in association with the secure entrance to the courthouse that is currently under construction. The total cost comes to $44,650.00.

Commission Chair Dan Deming showed concern over the price, but County Administrator Gary Meagher told him that they had no set price for this item, but estimated that it would have probably been around $50,000 with any bid being slightly above or slightly below.

The issue will be back on the agenda next week.
