WICHITA – Just after 7 a-m, on Wednesday, Sedgwick County deputies responded to a hit and run accident occurring neat 63rd Street South and Broadway.

Deputies were told that one of the vehicles involved was a maroon Chevy pickup. It was later discovered that this pickup had first struck a vehicle near 71 st Street South and Broadway and struck several street signs before being located.

Deputy Thomas Delgado then located the pickup near 3700 South Broadway where it had struck a guardrail and caught fire. The driver of the pickup was still in the driver’s seat.

Another Deputy Joe Page arrived at the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher and deputy Delgado tried to free the driver. Both deputies were able to pull the driver to safety through the driver’s side window and drag him from the burning wreckage.

The driver was transported to Via-Cristi St. Francis Regional Medical Center where he is now listed in good condition.

The two deputies were also transported to Via-Cristi St. Francis, where they were treated for smoke inhalation and released.

Sheriff officials say this incident is complex and crosses four jurisdictional boundaries during a time a time with a large volume of traffic.

The accident is being investigated by the Kansas Highway Patrol and the name of the victim has not been released. The name of the victim has not been released.

If the name Joe Page sounds familiar, its because he at one time worked for the Reno County Sheriff’s Office as an officer in the county jail.
