PRETTY PRAIRIE, Kan. — The city of Pretty Prairie continues to try and find ways to deal with high nitrate levels in its water supply. The cost to fix those problems is also hindering those efforts.

The Small Reno County community has always struggled with its water quality, but now the federal government has stepped in and demanded something be done.

The fix would include a new water treatment plant and water tower. The cost could exceed $2.5 million and that’s money the city simply doesn’t have. The community is trying to find various grants and other funding to help pay for such improvements.

A town hall meeting was held Wednesday night to discuss options of which, right now, appear few.
