SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Despite cold north winds, about 50 to 60 people attended the dedication and Veterans Day event in South Hutchinson at the Reno County Veterans Memorial which is under construction in South Hutchinson.

Matt Stiles who is the South Hutchinson City Administrator gave a brief talk and told the crowd of the $160,000 raised and another $150,000 for in kind service. The walls are up for the memorial and Stiles says they hope to have the memorial complete by next year.

The flags were raised by American Legion Riders while the national anthem played including the American Flag which is out in front. Further back were the flags for the different branches of the military.

One Oak provided funds for the American and Pow Flags. Hutchinson Clinic provided funds for the Army Flag and Hutchinson Regional Medical Center supplied the funds for the Navy Flag.

Again, the final phases will get underway adding the names of veterans and Stiles says there will be a deadline set soon for those wanting to submit names to be placed on the memorial.
