Two Injured In Power Plant Fire In Stafford (WATCH)

Firefighters were dispatched to a fire at the City of Stafford power plant at 5:15 pm this evening.

Workers reported smelling smoke and then hearing a loud “popping” noise. Almost simultaneously an audible alarm sounded.

When the workers investigated the area of smoke they found an oil fuel mixture fire shooting out from the side of the east power plant motor – one of five motors that are approximately 12′ high and 30′ long.

Two workers grabbed fire extinguishers and fought the fire until firefighters arrived. Both workers were transported to Stafford Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The fire caused heavy damage to the generator motor, the interior of the power plant, and to adjoining offices. The last firefighters left the scene at approximately 8 pm.
