HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old Hutchinson man was jailed after he allegedly led Sheriff Deputies on a high speed chase Tuesday morning.

Michael DeShazo is accused of stealing an older model pickup in Hutchinson at a local convenience store. Reno County Sheriff Deputies spotted him at Avenue C and Pierce in Nickerson and attempted to make a stop. He led deputies on a short chase until he crashed into a tree in the 300 block of North Thompson in Nickerson.

He was arrested for suspicion of felony flee and elude, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, criminal damage to property, that being damage to the truck, criminal possession of a weapon, brass knuckles and driving while suspended. This occurring just before 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

According to statements made in court, he intended to sell the vehicle for methamphetamine.

DeShazo is jailed on a $12,500 bond and his request for a bond reduction was denied.

He was out on bond for another case where he’s charged with aggravated failure to appear and has prior convictions for drugs, aggravated assault and obstruction. He had served time for those convictions with the sentences served as of Oct. 16.

He’ll be back in court next week to see of the state has filed formal charges.
