HUTCHINSON, Kan. – A 27-year-old Hutchinson man arrested after he allegedly led Sheriff Deputies on a high speed chase has been formally charged.

Michael DeShazo Jr. is accused of stealing a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup in Hutchinson at a local convenience store. Reno County Sheriff Deputies then spotted him at Avenue C and Pierce in Nickerson and attempted to make a traffic stop. He led deputies on a short chase until he crashed into a tree in the 300 block of North Thompson in Nickerson.

Charges filed by the state include felony theft and two alternate counts of felony flee and elude, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. This occurring just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 15.

DeShazo is jailed on a $12,500 bond and his request for a bond reduction was granted because some of the charges he was arrested on were not charged by the state in the criminal complaint.

He was out on bond for another case where he’s charged with aggravated failure to appear for some other cases. He has prior convictions for drugs, aggravated assault and obstruction. He had served time for those convictions with the sentences served as of Oct. 16.

His case will now move to a waiver-status docket on Dec. 28.
